Learning Purpose
1.
The students can
determine the control variable, response
variable and manipulation variable of the experiments about the influence of
the distance to the travel time
2.
The students can design experiments to find the influence
of the distance to the travel time.
The Problem Formulation
Hypothesis
Formulate a hypothesis to
answer the problem and cab be tested using the equipment and materials below.
If the distance is longer, the time taken is
longer too.
Materials and Equipment
1.
Trolley 1 unit
2.
Load 100 gr
3.
Pulley 1 unit
4.
Strap 1 meter
5.
Ruler 1 unit
6.
Stopwatch 1 unit
Procedure
1.
Formulate the operational definitions of variable
Formulate the manipulation variable, the response
variable and the control variable along with the operational definition of
variables.
Manipulation variable : the
distance track of trolley
Response variable : the time
taken
Control variable :the mass of
trolley, the mass of load, the mass of pulley
2.
Design the experiment. Write the planning of experiment to test your hypothesis, based on the
variabels that you have formulated.
Assemble equipments and materialsas shown. Then giveless weight to the trolley until
it can run. Then determine thedistance ofthe trackon aboard. After thatrelease the
trolley and simulta
neously measures the travel time with a stopwatch.
3.
Make the tables and graphs. Make a chart to record the data that you got. Make a
chart to showing the relationship between manipulation variables with the
response variable based on the data that you have got.

Discussion and
Analysis
1. Formulate the
conclusion. Based on the data
and the chart above, what is the conclusion that you get?
The longer track cause longer time required and
the acceleration will also be higher.
2.
Doing Inference.
Is your graph similar to the graph with other groups?
The graph will be same because
the manipulation variable of the data that use to
experiment is same each other.
3.
Doing the calculations. The slope of the graph distance on
time travel is acceleration. Calculate the acceleration!
from the graph, we can find the acceleration.
That is .
Calculations
Application
Taking
water from the well using a pulley.
At the time of taking water from the well we exert a force on
the pulley by pulling the rope that
connect with
the pulley. So this force
is will stir the pulley. Can this system have zero acceleration?
This system could not have the
acceleration equal to zero because we cannot set the speed
of
pulley when pulling
it.Acceleration will be equal to zero if the speed of pulley is constant.
